This course will review the recent changes in the OSHA Electric Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Standards.

The course will review all updates to the electric power standards. Includes OSHA 1910.269 (Electric Power, Generation, Transmission and Distribution), 1910.137 (Electrical Protective Equipment, 1926 Subpart V (Electric Transmission and Distribution). Per OSHA, electrical hazards are a major cause of occupational death in the United States. The annual fatality rate for power line workers is about 50 deaths per 100,000 employees. The construction industry standard addressing employee safety during the construction of electric power transmission and distribution lines is over 35 years old. OSHA has developed a revision of this standard that will prevent many of these fatalities, add flexibility to the standard, and update and streamline the standard. The corresponding standard for general industry will align work performed during the maintenance of electric power transmission and distribution installations with construction. This course will review these standard changes and how they will impact the industry. Course available 2012.
